My Favorite American Idol Performances

It really is amazing how long American Idol has been on television. I am almost in disbelief that this season will be its last. I keep thinking that at the finale they are going to announce that they are actually going to go just… one… more… season. But I have a feeling they really are going to close the curtains and say goodbye. Knowing that this is the end got me thinking to what my favorite American Idol performances were.

For the first 5+ years I would tune in to see my “favorites” every week and vote for them in hopes that they would make it to the next round. I even had a couple of people that I knew through friends and family that went to auditions here in Hawaii (you can see one of the video’s below.) So here are my favorite American Idol Performances (in no particular order.)

Favorite American Idol Performances

Fantasia Barrino – I Believe

This was one of my all time favorite American Idol performances because it was so full of emotion. I felt like I was in church listening to someone’s testimony. It was so touching and powerful. Even through those tears she proved why she deserved that winning spot. *drops mic*

Sing it Tasia:

Kris Allen – Heartless

I loved Kris and after he did this performance, it really sealed the deal for me. He went from trailing behind and being boosted straight into the winner’s circle. His rendition of this Kanye hit was unexpected but done so well.

Check Kris out:

Adam Lambert – Tracks of My Tears

Why Adam didn’t win… ok… not gonna go there. But this version… really people. Adam is a PERFORMER and I was so happy that he did not go overboard with this. [Side note:I don’t see it as overboard, but ya know… American Idol]. There was just enough tenderness in it and I know others enjoyed seeing this side of him. It was a beautiful performance.

Please… let Adam entertain you:

William Hung – She Bangs

So… I remember the exact moment that I was watching this episode. I was sitting in the nail shop getting a pedicure after work. The nail shop wasn’t too busy but there were enough customers and nail technicians there that it felt like we were having a viewing party. When William Hung was being interviewed all I could think to myself was… this… should… be… interesting. I just knew regardless of how great (or horrible) his voice was about to be – Simon was going to grill him. Boy was I right. When William started singing and “banging” around everyone in the nail shop literally stopped what they were doing and stared – I am guessing saying to themselves “is he for real?” – and at the end nearly all of us starting laughing so hard. And along came Simon with his sassy response. I was laughing because it was funny but also because that man was passionate about what he was doing – I thought it was adorable. When Simon chimed in I felt bad, but I still giggled a little. His audition is probably one of my favorite American Idol moments.

Watch William Hung perform Rick Martin’s ‘She Bangs’:

Candice Glover – Lovesong

I really love(this)song [see what I did there?] Unfortunately, so many people have attempted to sing it and failed… miserably. Until Candice gave it life again. Her smooth and jazzy rendition really put me in the feels and I simply do not understand how she is not FAMOUS after that performance. I mean… come on… Mariah Carey went on stage and tossed glitter at her!! Randy Jackson said it was “one of the greatest performance’s in the HISTORY” of American Idol. Come on people. I think I voted for her the most out of any American Idol contestant.

Check Ms. Candice out:

Jessica Sanchez – And I Am Telling You

This young woman had such a big voice coming out of that petite body. Keep in mind she was just 16 years old. She was singing like a grown ass woman. *ahem* It is like she swallowed a soul singer and they are trying to escape her.

Jessica tells you that you’re gonna love her:

Jessica Sanchez – Dance With My Father

If you don’t get the feels hearing her sing this… something is wrong with you. Seriously. I could just write a whole post about Jessica Sanchez on American Idol… maybe I will… ok… no I won’t. But really… she just has a natural talent.

Hearing her sing is really inspirational and you hear her speak – she has some wisdom in her even as a teenager. After I finish this post I need to look up what she has been up to lately. She deserves the best.

Grab some tissues and get in your feelings:

Anoop Desai – Thank You

This was totally unexpected and I laugh every time I hear Simon talking about Anoop’s clothes and totally dismissing his vocal ability. Simon had to find something to say so he didn’t have to immediately admit that he liked what he heard. I liked some of Anoops other performances and really love some of the music he put out but his audition was really great in my opinion. Also… I cannot confirm/deny that I may have had a little crush on him.

Anoop Dawg:

Isaac

Let me say this… I know Isaac… he is a family friend. As far as the person in that audition… I only sorta know him. Ha! I have heard Isaac sing in person – and he is way better than what he sounds like in the audition. Even in the audition he wasn’t as horrible as some people are but that is besides the point. I just found it hilarious that he went out and tried to bring back some “fans” – that actually seems like something he would do – American Idol or not. I loved that he stood up for himself to the very end and didn’t care what anyone else thought.

Isaac’s confidence is what makes his audition one of my favorite American Idol performances:

Bonus: Local Girl, Paula Fuga

I put Paula in here because she is from Hawaii… and… because she has a lovely, soulful voice. Even though she didn’t make it past this audition on American Idol, she did end up with people that appreciated her vocal ability.

Here is Paula’s audition:

Here is Paula Fuga performing ‘Country Road’ with Jack Johnson:

Lastly, Paula Fuga at TEDxMaui speaking about being homeless in Hawaii as a child and reaching her dreams:

Flashback Friday’s: Episode 12

flashback fridays

This was a busy week for me. It seemed like it really just flew by. I didn’t have the time I would have liked to have for certain things but it is because I wasn’t organized and chose to do other things instead. I had plans for this weekend but I really just need the weekend to recover from the whirlwind that is my life.

The most exciting thing that happened for me was going to see The Avengers: Age of Ultron. I really enjoyed it, however, some of the time I wish there was more action involved. I did like that they went more into some of the characters backgrounds – that was a nice touch. I was a little bummed at the lack of Thor in the movie though. lol

I can’t believe that Mother’s Day is already here. I hope all the Mother’s out there have a beautiful weekend. I send my love and respect to all of you. Being a Mother is one of the toughest jobs in the world. I am not a Mother (yet) but I am up for challenge whenever that day comes for me. I asked my Mom what she wanted to do for Mother’s Day and she said “sleep” – lol – she has been working super hard lately so sleep is what we shall give her. Everyone have a great weekend!

Aloha,
Rose

What are your plans for this weekend?
Did you watch Avengers (or any other movies recently)? If so – how did you like it?

Flashback Friday’s: Episode 10

flashback fridays

Hey there! Thank you for stopping in and reading today. Welcome to another episode of Flashback Friday’s where I share with y’all about what I had going on during my week. I can’t believe I actually made it to Episode 10 without skipping any Fridays. This has probably been the only thing that I have actually been pretty consistent with when it comes to blogging. *WOO HOO* I was hoping that I would have been more successful with NaBloPoMo Posts this month but things do not always go as planned. And that is quite alright. I have been working on some drafts lately so next month there should be more of a variety of posts for y’all to read.

During the weekend my niece slept over so. It is always wonderful to spend time with her – she is growing up so fast. She sang songs from her favorite movies/shows as well as got me to watch over 2 hours of My Little Pony Equestria Girls. I look forward to having kids one day but having a niece and nephew is such a wonderful experience and good practice sometimes too. I love them so much and want to spoil the heck out of them most of the time.

Now that I’m working again I don’t have time to binge watch Netflix on random days of the week, but I have been watching Daredevil and I am really enjoying it. We watch 2 or 3 episodes every couple of days and it just keeps getting better. I like all of the characters even though in general I can’t stand the actress that plays Karen (because she annoyed me so much in True Blood
) lol. Other than that I continue watching and look forward to the fight sequences. I don’t want it to end but once it does a have a gazillion shows on the DVR that need to be watched – I try my best to keep it under 87% but that never lasts very long. I will get to them eventually. Thanks to Google Chromecast we can watch Netflix on our awesome TV instead of a the small laptop screen.

One thing that I have been doing better this time around (when it comes to working) is bringing a home lunch. I used to spend so much of my hard earned money every week on lunches (and sometimes snacks or coffee.) I have been pretty good at remembering to make lunches (and actually remembering to bring them with me.) I do intend on spending a little time looking up some creative lunches on Pinterest so that I am not always eating the same boring thing everyday. Let me know what your favorite home lunches are.

Around the web
+ Sarah’s article 3 Life Changing Lessons I’ve Learned From Some of The Greatest Rejects of All Time has some lovely unknown facts about some of our favorite successful people such as J.K. Rowling (she got fired from her job from writing too much) and Hugh Jackman (he got fired from his job for talking too much.) It was a great read and an excellent reminder to just keep going.

Book Review: Satellite, The Satellite Trilogy Part I by Lee Davidson

This eBook was given to me in exchange for an honest book review of it on my blog. This review is my honest opinion of the book and I was in no way compensated in exchange for a positive review. Some of the links below may contain affiliate links in which I may receive a small commission at no additional cost to you if you decide to purchase the book.
Book: Satellite, The Satellite Trilogy Part I
Author: Lee Davidson

Satellite Triology Lee DavidsonThe beginning of this story was a slow read, however, once I got into it I really enjoyed it. The more that I read, the deeper that it pulled me in. It speaks from the view of a man in the afterlife and uncovers the love and longing that he has for the woman that he left behind. He wants so much to live on in human form and is not concerned about the consequences he may face if he attempts to connect with her. As a Satellite or Guardian Angel, he is given responsibilities and he has little to no concern towards the consequences he may face if he ignores them. There is a major plot twist that I didn’t really see coming and it was a nice surprise.

As far as characters go, I really liked them – even the stubborn main character, Grant, who is a mans-man. He is not very in touch with his feelings and I think I would have liked him a lot more if he was. I feel like his feelings were being buried and if they had been revealed I would have probably been in tears after reading this book.

I enjoyed the plot, however, I do think that it was missing information about actually being a Satellite. I am not sure if the other books cover this but I think that there was some potential for a great story (within the story) about the paranormal world that Grant is thrust into. More background information about how they came to be and their history would have been really exciting to read about.

The ending really left me wanting more and I am very interested in reading the next book in the trilogy. I would love to see what happens next to Grant and the other characters. Also, I am hoping that the next book digs a bit deeper into the history of the Satellites. After reading Satellite, I really wanted to watch Ghost because it has that same feeling you get when the two lovers in the film want to be connected again and will do just about anything to do so. This book is a perfect read for a Friday night when you want to curl up and enjoy some hot tea.

Flashback Friday’s: Episode 9

flashback fridays

Is it really Friday again? Where did this week go? I have been feeling really exhausted lately mainly because my sleeping pattern has been really wonky lately. It got to the point where I would fall asleep with my phone in my hand while writing a text message or playing a game of Words With Friends. I am hoping this weekend I won’t have much to do so I can get some much needed rest and relaxation.

This week has been full of training at my new job so that is where most of my focus has been. I know, I know… you miss me being on Twitter 24/7 lol. I am really loving my new job and I have learned so many things in such a short amount of time.

In other news, I did manage to write a post about myself called the ABC’s of me. That was fun to do and I challenge you to do it if it sounds like something fun for you to do as well. Also my other blog grew another year older. It turned 5 years old this past weekend.

Going back to my wacky sleep schedule – there was something exciting that came from it and I think it will benefit me and the people that read my blog. During a tossing and turning fit one morning (at 4am) I happened to FINALLY be awake for the #SITSblogging Twitter chat (held 7am PST on Saturdays) and I stumbled upon some blogging accountability partners! I have always wanted at least 1 and I found 3!! My lucky 3 *wink wink*. We are going to help each other with our blogging goals and I am so excited to have found them. Make sure to check them out at their online homes:

+ Teresa at Embracing the Spectrum

+ Diana at This Imperfect Happiness

+ Anna at Hello, Handbag

So I guess lack of sleep is worth it (sometimes.)

Anywho, I hope y’all have a great weekend. What do you have planned for this weekend?

There’s Something About Oprah

It’s Women’s History Month. There has been so many important women who have shaped the world. Who do you immediately think of when you think about women (past or present) who bring about change?

March is Women’s History Month and there are so many women that have done brave and inspiring things to change the world as we know it. Most of them do not get any credit and/or remain unnamed and often the ones that lucky enough to get any sort of recognition often end up receiving a lot of flak. For centuries women have faced mockery for their accomplishments because of double standards when it comes to men and women. Even with so many obstacles and lack of appreciation many of them push through and never give up on what they set out to do. (more…)
