7 Things That Make Me Happy

  1. Children’s laughter: It is something about a child’s laughter that just makes me warm inside. No matter what is happening in my life a little giggle from a kid will make me smile – on the inside and the outside.
  2. Tiramisu: Now I love me a sweet treat but it is something about tiramisu that makes me so happy. A good tiramisu will just melt in your mouth and make your tummy smile. If I was only allowed just one dessert for the rest of my life it would be for sure be tiramisu.
  3. Sunsets: Though I love sunrise and love to see the sun greet us for a new day there is just something special about a beautiful sunset. It closes out your day and I love seeing that last sliver of light go down underneath a beautiful pink or orange sky.
  4. Rainbows: There is something about these colorful arches in the sky that put a smile on my face – especially after a refreshing rain. Sometimes I am blessed to see a double rainbow and that makes me even happier than a single one.
  5. A good book: I love to read. I have always collected books and have a fairly large collection to choose from. A perfect day would be devouring a good book as I sip coffee or hot tea next to a window while it rains. I don’t read as often as I would like but I have been scheduling in time to do so which has equated to me reading a lot more than I used to.
  6. Music: Whenever I am in a rut I know that I can find some good music to vibe too. Whether it is my own curated playlist (I have called Feel Good Music) or just discovering some new music, I can usually find some songs that will lift my mood.
  7. Animals: From the wild animals at the zoo to the animals we have at home, animals can really put a smile on my face. I love to watch monkeys play along with each other just as much as I love playing catch with our dogs at home. Most domesticated animals love you no matter what. They also can often tell when you aren’t feeling well and will snuggle up next to you which for me makes me feel better.

Mental Health Matters: Choosing Me

For most of my teens and early adulthood I spent a lot of time worrying about others. How are they doing? What can I do to help them? How can I help them? Do they like me? And a million other questions that ultimately concerned them and their well being and not so much my own.

There wasn’t one specific day or big moment but as I got older I realized it is ok to care and be concerned about the people you care about and love, however, you also have to take care of you FIRST. More recently it has been heavy on my heart to think about why was a choosing to put so much effort into others when I am not taking care of me.

Moving closer to things I needed in my life and quitting my job were huge life changes that did cause me some stress but in the long run I believe will be extremely beneficial to me. I can still love, care and be there for others but not in the same way that I was in the past.

I’m choosing me.

Mental Health Matters: Letting Go

I quit my job. This was something I planned on doing along the line to pursue other things as well as go back to school. This is not the reason I quit. I quit because my anxiety, stress and depression had become so consuming that I didn’t think I could go on working another day. I have a family member that supported me in this decision and will help me temporarily while I sort things out. Am I terrified? Yes. Anxious? Absolutely. I am a mix of emotions, however, I feel in the long run this is what is best for me at this time.

At this time when in comes to my mental health I feel like it is extremely important to focus on that and do whatever it takes to improve it. I can no longer go on ignoring it and hoping it will just go away one day. I have been praying and meditating on this for awhile and letting go of my job always came up as something that I was guided towards. I’m not sure what is coming next but I just continue to pray and meditate for guidance. One thing that came up recently is to write. So here I am on a Monday afternoon (not at work) writing this post. Quitting my job was terrifying yet a relief at the same time – it was a long time coming I guess you can say.

I have always loved to write. Either by paper or with a computer. I actually miss old fashion typewriters. I thought one day I would write a great novel on one of them. I may not have an old fashioned typewriter but I know I have a novel (or two) somewhere deep inside of me. I am hoping that getting back into blogging will inspire me to write and finish one. I do have a story I started years ago that I plan on working on a bit here and there to see where it goes.

As I mentioned above another thing I have been looking into is going back to school. The idea itself has brought up some anxiety as I know that I often have a tougher time than some with focusing and remembering the course materials. I don’t get terrible grades, however, I do feel like I could do much better if things were different. Working on my mental health should really help me in this area as I am hoping to get into a Master’s program and move forward with my education. I love to learn so even if I don’t get into one of these competitive programs right away I believe I will still take at least a couple of courses to get me back in the groove of things.

I am planning to have a career one of these days. I am just not sure in what field exactly. I enjoyed what I did at the job I just left, however, I sort of want to expand on that in some way. I enjoy working in an office yet I also enjoy working with children in some capacity. I am hoping that during a meditaion or prayer I will get some guidance on what type of career I should shoot towards.

Focusing on my mental health and practicing self care should really help me in all the things that I would like to accomplish in my life. If you are personally having some issues in this area I would definately seek help in all the ways you can. I have support from family and my mental health provider. For others it may be their church or spiritual groups. Whatever it is, look for help and guidance somewhere. You deserve it. Focus on your mental health. Focus on self care. Switch career paths. Learn something new. Fight the depression. Ease the anxiety. Do whatever it takes to be the best you that you can be. I hope that you all have some sort of support system and if you do not please see if you can find it somewhere. I have even found people online that offered me kind words and encouraged me to take care of me as best as I could.

Sometimes the best thing to do is to let things go. What are you planning on letting go of?

How to Get Ready for a Dick Appointment

Hello. Sooo… you came here because you either thought this was going to be a funny post or a serious one. Or perhaps you really want to know how to get ready for a dick appointment. Well ladies (and fellas) – here you go. This is my take on how to get ready for a dick appointment.

Hair

You want your hair to be cute, however, remember that it may end up a mess after you roll around in bed so keep that in mind when you style it. Slick it back, bring an extra rubber band and brush in case you need it later. You pretty little naughty gal.

Nails/Toenails

Make sure your nails are nicely filed as well as your toenails. You don’t want to hurt your partner with rough edges and talons – unless he is into that. Go for a glow in the dark mani or some other pretty color – he probably won’t be staring at your nails, however, just in case.

Hygiene

GIRL – Wash your entire body. Wash every curve, crevice, hole and so on. Top to bottom! Don’t miss any spots. Use a pretty scent if that is your thing – but WASH YOUR A$$ (and your vagina too)!

Shave or wax under your arms, your legs and your lady bits. If you don’t shave or wax your lady bits you can always give it a nice trim if you feel the need to do so. Make it look fabulous and edible.

Lotion and/or powder your body with your favorite scent but don’t overdo it – you don’t wanna smell like a cheap hussy for your appointment.

Brush your teef and bring a mouth wash or mints along just in case you need to freshen up later. GARGLE UP GIRL.

Makeup

Use sweat/water proof makeup if you can so that it can stay on when you’re getting wild in bed. Use a good setting spray so you can remain cute as long as possible. Or – just don’t wear any makeup at all. A pretty lip may turn him on if you know he is into lipstick or lip gloss on you.

Attire

You can pretty much wear anything depending on how long you have known this person. However, for best results dress slutty. Kidding – dress in some sexy and comfy attire that is easy to toss on the side once he is ready for business. Trying to take off a million zippers and buttons is so not sexy ladies – unless he is into a long unveiling.

What to Bring

Full set of extra clothes (you can keep that in your car). Condoms. Lube – if you think you may need that. Mouth wash – in case you know what happens (GARGLE, GARGLE). Some enthusiasm and a great personality (HA!) A brush and rubber band may also come in handy before your walk of shame.

I hope this helps you a bit on your quest on how to get ready for a dick appointment.

Wellness Wednesdays: Mental Health Matters

TRIGGER WARNING: Mental health disorders, depression, anxiety, panic attacks

I recently went through (and am still going through) a rough time with my mental health. I have had anxiety mixed with panic attack that lead to me going to the E.R. I have had depression that I had to fight and force myself to do every day things – getting out of bed was a major struggle. Going to work. Washing clothes. Being social. Everything became a huge task that I did not want to or know how to do anymore.

Though I feel significantly better than I did a few months ago with therapy and medication, I still have times where I feel extremely anxious or depressed. I had to realize this may be something I deal with for the rest of my life. I thought it would be good to talk about it a bit and share some things that have helped me along the way.

Find a safe place to talk about what you’re going through. Whether you have a friend or family member to go to or need to reach out to a professional – get out there and find someone to speak to. If you get a therapist, counselor, psychologist or psychiatrist sometimes you may have to go a few sessions to get a feel of it they are a fit. You may be a bit anxious and/or guarded at first but don’t let that stop you – they may be just what you need to let out a sigh of relief.

Don’t feel like you’re a burden. You aren’t. You may feel you are but you aren’t. You may not have found that safe space. Keep looking until you do. Even if it on websites or through social media. I have found many supportive people online that don’t mind listening to what I am going through, lending an ear and giving me advice and words of encouragement. Of course you can keep your guard up and set boundaries in the beginning and not share every single thing with people, but there are people out there that have gone through or are going through the same or similar things that you are going through.

If your mental health professional suggests that you take medication and you are hesitant, ask them more about it and let them know you may want to think about it a bit. There are many different medications that are out there and you have options. If you want to look up the medication(s) that they suggest go ahead and do so. Just be warned that some people do get side effects so keep that in mind. Some are minor and others are major but you should feel comfortable enough to discuss this with your mental health care provider.

Find a happy place or things to do that make you happy. If your mental health issue(s) came on suddenly remember that there were things in the past that you enjoyed. Force yourself to do them! If you love to paint, go and paint. If you love to go to the beach – do it. It may be difficult at first but it is good to do the things you love and that make you happy.

Have a routine. This was tough for me at first because I was all over the place. Now MON – FRI I have work and I come home and do 1 of 3 things during the evening hours. For weekends I try to schedule at least 1-2 things that require me to leave the house. If I stay in all weekend my mind races and I get frustrated and sometimes depressed. If you plan ahead and stick to it I promise you will feel better about it. What also works is scheduling something with a friend or family member so that I know someone else is looking forward to doing something with me as well.

Be your best YOU. There is only one you in the whole entire world and even if you are feeling down and not yourself, do what you can to be the best you that you can be. If that means starting something new – a class, a new hobby, a business – do it. Keep yourself busy at being YOU. Figure out what you are good at, figure out what you are passionate about and go out and do it!

Blog Life: I think I’m back

It has been awhile since I last posted something. It is not that I haven’t had ideas. My mind is constantly full of ideas for posts. It is not that I haven’t thought about different series to start up here. It is not that I completely forgot that I have a blog (more than one actually).

It is simply because life got in the way.

I have been going through a lot of things personally and I tend to share bits and pieces here. I will expand on this more in another post (got the idea while going through some thangs), however, just know that you can expect more posts from me going forward.

I want to welcome any new readers and send big hugs to returning readers for coming and checking out what this post is all about. Coming back and writing was actually inspired by my therapy session yesterday – I was encouraged to follow my passion(s) and blogging/writing is definitely up there when it comes to things I am passionate about.

This is how passionate about writing this post I was. It is Saturday, I am washing clothes, budgeting and paying bills online, however, I told myself I would open up wordpress and write something… ANYTHING… even if it was a draft. Well my laptop decided it was the perfect time for an update and nearly an hour later (I know it was an hour because my laundry was done around the same time) I FINALLY was able to log in after my laptop restarted twice.

I was at my wits end and frustrated but I reminded myself that I had made a promise to myself last night that I would make sure to write something today. Regardless of how short or long it was – I was going to write something. As I close out this post I feel so inspired to continue writing and blogging. I didn’t go back and proofread because I want to post this NOW. I may come back later to see if there are some things that need changing but I am happy with myself for writing this post in one sitting. Dell just popped up saying I have 5 updates to install so I better post this before things get crazy again. I love you all!

I think I’m back.
