Flashback Friday’s: What I’m Loving This Week

Normally my Flashback Friday’s posts are personal – I talk about work, school, blogging and family. I thought I would switch it up this week and share some of my favorite things from this week. So thank you for stopping by and take a look below to find out what has been bringing me joy. Especially since you have heard me complain about Mercury Retrograde and life two Friday’s in a row.

Flashback Fridays – What I’m Loving This Week

Beauty & Makeup

I am loving the NARS Velvet Lip Glide and want every color but Toy-Toy is by far my favorite color. They are only available until October so make sure you pick up your favorites before they sell out. I am also loving NARS Velvet Lip Glide in Unspeakable – perfect color for fall!

Fashion & Style

The interwebs have been abuzz with NYFW (New York Fashion Week) updates – everywhere that I turned online there were updates to check out. One thing I was super excited about were the plus size models that walked in Christian Siriano’s show along with the launch of his collaboration with Lane Bryant.

I was excited to find out that Sarah Jessica Parker has launched her Italian-made collection SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker which includes shoes, boots, flats, handbags and more. I really loved the SJP by Sarah Jessica Parker Women’s Bobbie Dress Sandal featured in the above image.

Flashback Fridays – More Things I’m Loving This Week

Blogging & Business
As I have been working on new content for the blog I have also been going back and updating old posts when I have time as well. As a blogger I realize that sometimes readers end up at old posts and it is important to keep all posts as updated and/or create a new post that talks about the update – things change, my thoughts change, I learn new things and even though a post may be “old” I would still like it to be as transparent and “current” as it can be.

While going through some of my favorite blogs I came across Katie’s post about How to Update Old Content and it was a nice reminder to go through some posts this week when I had time. I was able to update some older posts and while doing that I was inspired to start working on some other content as well.

I have slowly became addicted to webinars and podcasts. Though I have listened to many different ones there are only a handful that a religiously follow and take notes on. I usually don’t get to listen until the weekend so I usually binge through a couple at a time. The most recent one that I really enjoyed was Myleik Teele’s one titled “How I QUIT My Job! A Chat with Courtney Sanders of ThinkandGrowChick.com” These are two of my favorite women when it comes to business and growing a brand so I was super excited to hear that Myleik was having Courtney Sanders on there. If you are building a brand, are interested in turning that side hustle to a business and leaving that 9 to 5 – listen to this and when you have time listen to their podcasts + visit their websites.

Music & Entertainment

Macy Gray released a new album last week and I am loving what I have heard so far. Her beautifully distinctive raspy voice always gives me good vibes and I somehow ended up on youtube to listen to her singing Christmas songs!! (I loooooove Christmas music by the way)

If you loved Stranger Things on Netflix as much as I did – I’m sure you also enjoyed the soundtrack. Get your fix of 80’s vibes with the Stranger Things – The Complete Fantasy Playlist (Various Artists). You can also pre-order the Stranger Things Soundtrack via Amazon here: Stranger Things Soundtrack Vol. 1 and Stranger Things Soundtrack Vol. 2 (which I just had to add to my Amazon wishlist.)

Speaking of Amazon, I am only now really taking advantage of all the great Amazon Prime Student benefits which aside from the great deals and cool shipping options includes exclusive movie, music and Kindle book options. According to Amazon “As a Prime member, you get unlimited access to over a million songs and hundreds of custom-built playlists for FREE.

Try Amazon Prime 30-Day Free Trial

I have been enjoying the available playlists and making my own as well – you can even add music from your own computer. Not only can I stream music at no additional cost there are so many movies and shows that I can stream as well. If you have an Amazon Prime account (or don’t have one at all) and are a student I would highly recommend signing up for a Amazon Prime Student account – so many great benefits and it costs less than the normal Amazon Prime account! Amazon Student is the way to go!

Flashback Friday’s: No More Adulting Please

Aloha!
Thank you for stopping by for another Flashback Friday’s. I hope that you had a wonderful week and that this new month is treating you well. As you can see by the title of this post – I am a bit over this whole adulting thing please. Is there any way that I can return to sender somehow? HALP.

As I mentioned last week, Mercury Retrograde has already started playing with me. Even though I joke (a little) about how things seem to get turned upside down during this time – it ain’t a joke. Nope. Nope. Nope. Continue reading for more reasons why I want adulting to end.

flashback fridays hertaintedlips

This is a new semester for me – only a couple of weeks in and I feel like everything that could go wrong *gulps* is going wrong. Nothing too crazy to do with actual homework, studying and so on has really happened since last week. The issue is that my financial aid appeal process is taking longer than usual and I was having some problems with getting the textbooks I needed as well. Most of these issues should smooth over within the next week, however, the waiting and anticipation is driving me banana’s. I just have to take deep breaths in and out and remember that everything is working out in divine timing.

Did you know you can schedule pins on #Pinterest? Get started for free with @TailwindApp

Aside from school “issues” I had a major freak out during the week. Since last weekend my phone charger has been acting wonky – it wasn’t charging as fast as usual and eventually I noticed the cord was a little wobbly. No problem. I have an extra cord.

Unfortunately I forgot to switch it out, my phone died overnight and I ended up being late to work. I have been using the alarms on my phone for awhile now (ever since my actual alarm broke) but been meaning to purchase a new alarm clock “just in case.” Well guess who went out and purchased a new alarm clock that very same day.

Side note: allergy pills make me very drowsy so I didn’t naturally wake up until way later than usual. o.O

So those are just a few of the not so fun things that happened during this week of adulting. Can someone please take this adulting thing back? I don’t think I was prepared lol.

I have been meditating a lot lately so that I stay grounded because it seems like every little thing has been bothering me lately. I hope that the weeks ahead are going to be more positive and that things really do work out better. Now I am off to work on our research project for school. Have a wonderful weekend.

Flashback Friday’s: Mercury Retrograde Edition

Mercury Retrograde is NO JOKE. I know people make fun of it, however, I really feel this is the time when The Universe takes all the things you may be worried about and says “challenge accepted”. Let me just say, this post is going to be more of a complaining rant – but you gonna be alright and you have been warned lol.

Anywho, I hope that you have had a wonderful week and that things haven’t gone too crazy for you. It is Friday – so enjoy this post with a glass of wine and I would highly recommend that you back up your files while you read.

Life, Life

It seems like everything that could go wrong is just like “heyyyyyyyyyyy Rose, we are coming for ya” this week. Like what is really going on? I don’t want to really go into everything at this moment but if you follow me on Twitter or Snapchat I’m sure you have read/heard a bit of my complaining about the more personal issues that have been happening lately.

School & Work Life

With a new semester comes new responsibilities and I promised myself that this semester I would do significantly better than I did last semester. For me this includes getting homework, studying and projects done well ahead of time. Well this past week I was doing well until one evening I went to take my online quiz and the WiFi went out. I took that as a sign to go stretch, drink water, relax and so on.

Well when I came back the WiFi was still going in and out with no reliable connection. My laptop also decided that at this moment it wanted to do an update. No biggie – I like to keep my laptop updated. So I clicked on the “update and restart” button and walked away. It restarted but didn’t update. I tried a couple more times – no update. So I tried the “update and shutdown” option – still wasn’t updating. At this point I was so frustrated.

I tried one more time and it updated. This was apparently a huge update which required my laptop to restart a few times and when it finally updated and the WiFi was back on… it was 3 hours after I had planned on taking my quiz. I was beyond annoyed and once I logged back on to my computer my little sticky note was missing (luckily I was able to find it) and my background image was gone and it was defaulted to the hideous blue windows screen. Needless to say I did not do my quiz that day.

Blog Life

If you follow me on Twitter you will know that last weeks Flashback Friday’s post didn’t post. I was having technical issues and my post literally vanished. I keep searching for it and I’m just really not sure what occurred. I am just going to pout about it for one more day and move on. HA!

Aside from the post not publishing on time because of the WiFi issue I mentioned above (which seems to keep happening off and on this week) it was extremely difficult to work on blog posts the way I normally do but I was able to get enough things done that I feel semi-accomplished. I am hoping next week will be better.

One good thing that happened this week is that I was contacted by someone to collaborate with them which was super exciting for me. I look forward to sharing more about that in the future.

Currently listening to:

The 20/20 Experience – Justin Timberlake

Currently snacking on:

Smartfood Delight White Cheddar Popcorn

Alright, enough of me complaining. Mercury Retrograde isn’t that bad (I guess). And as long as I don’t dwell on the “bad” things it won’t bring about more of the same. It can be a growing and learning time as well. The overall message I have been getting lately is to back up everything and expect delays.

If you don’t really know about Mercury Retrograde or what the “big deal” is, here are some articles to help you out:

Flashback Friday’s: Side Hustle & School Flow

flashback fridays hertaintedlips

Life, Life

Not sure why but I have been listening to Drake nearly every day this week. This particular album gets me pumped.

If I die, I’m a legend.

I haven’t been doing anything overly exciting to report but this weekend is my brother’s birthday so I will be having a lot of family fun time over the weekend. I’m sure it will include movies, music, good food, laughs and more. Nothing wrong with that!

School & Work Life

Now that school officially starts for me next week there are going to be a lot of changes happening in my life including my work schedule. I will be working less days (and hours) which is fine because I will need that time for studying and working on school projects. It also means that I have more time to work on my business and projects. I am actually super excited about that.

One thing I am working on is creating a “work” schedule for my side hustling. I get distracted fairly easily at times so I have to schedule things in smaller blocks. I am still trying to figure out if I should do more days with less blocks or less days with more blocks. I’m going to test out my first “schedule” next week and see how it goes.

One thing that is driving me bonkers is our WiFi. With school and work done primarily online I need to have WiFi that I can rely on. I am thinking about getting a stick so that I always have a backup when needed.

Side Hustler Tips & Resources:

Blog Life

Per usual, a lot of behind the scenes things have been going on with my blogging. I am changing my blog task schedule to fit better with what I am trying to accomplish by 2017. I am excited about what I have been doing and the things that I have planned for the near future.

Flashback Friday’s: August Ramblings

So week 2 of August is in the wind! How has this new month been treating you? For myself things have been going much better than the first 7 months of the year. HA! So I’m happy to say I am in a good place right now. I hope that things continue to go smoothly througout the rest of year.

Anywho, welcome to Flashback Friday’s – my way of sharing what I have been up to during the week with all of my readers. If you are new here – thank you for stopping by. Don’t be afraid to say hello in the comments – I promise I don’t bite… usually 😃 But seriously, thank you for stopping by and make sure you take a look around to see what else has been going on.

Life, Life

Besides trying to survive this humidity, things have been going fairly well lately. I have been planning some self-care into my schedule along with a staycation hopefully in the near future. I have been trying to schedule in more time doing things that bring me joy and it has been working well so far.

Last weekend I went and met up with a friend for lunch and checked out an exhibit at one of the museums – that was a nice way to spend what would have otherwise been just a lazy day at home with the fan blasting on me. I even made a point to stop at one of the beaches on my way home from a family gathering and just walk along the shore enjoying the sunset and cool summer evening. I hope for more days like those.

During the week I also broke my “don’t go anywhere after coming home and taking my bra off during a weeknight” rule and met up with a friend that was in town. So happy that I dragged myself out of the house to meet up for drinks and some good laughs. Maybe I do have a little bit of a social life. lol

For those of you that have known me for awhile know I have had so many different health issues in the past couple of years. Well I am happy to say that aside from the heat I have been feeling really well lately. I have been eating healthier and working out a bit more as well so my body has really been feeling great. Wish me luck with keeping this up as I approach another semester in college.

Work Life

Work almost seems like a stand still while we wait for the department we work with to get their act together. I am still debating on getting a second job to supplement my income but I enjoy the schedule that I have – no nights or weekends – something that I am not sure I am ready to sacrifice (again.) We shall see how things go. Monster.com has been sending me the most random messages for jobs that I am not even qualified for. HA! Maybe they know something that I don’t know?

School Life

So… I cannot believe that the new semester starts in 10 days. The farther away it was the more prepared I felt. Now that it is less than 2 weeks away I am feeling anxious – mainly because last semester was a bit of a roller coaster for me. But I have chosen to stay positive and not freak out over it. Say a little prayer for me please.

I spoke to the Academic Advising office today and found out I actually have 1 less course to take than I initially had. That is such a huge relief. This has been such a long, exhausting and stressful process for me but I won’t go into the crappy details. Just wish me luck!

Blog Life

Due to the crazy weather we had over the weekend my blog time that I had planned out did not go quite the way that I wanted. WiFi outages and a leaky ceiling took me from what was supposed to be a productive day. This weekend I think things will go a little smoother.

One thing that I have been thinking about lately is that I really need to start doing videos/vlogs. I am so nervous about doing videos and feel super uncomfortable on camera most of the time (unless I’m being my goofy self). If you follow me on Snapchat you probably notice what a goof ball I am. But from a blogging and business standpoint I do need to get serious about added videos to my blog posts – especially when I do product reviews.

As a blogger that often gets paid (in money, discounts or products) for reviews I lose out on a lot of potential income because I do not usually do videos. If you a vlogger what are some of your tips to get started? Let me know in the comments or hit me up on Twitter.

P.S. What do you think about Instagram‘s video vs Snapchat? Are you loyal to Snapchat? I’m curious to know.

Flashback Friday’s: Feeling hot, hot, HOT

It’s Friday again! You know what that means – the weekend! And I especially love Friday’s because I get to work from home. WOO HOO. Yay Friday!

flashback fridays hertaintedlips

Life, Life

IT IS HOT! Now if you go ahead and google the temperature for Hawaii you’re going to be like “what are you talking about Rose? It’s not that bad. Besides, you live in Hawaii – it is supposed to be hot.” WRONG! Now, I will admit, this summer has not been as hot as it was last summer (which was probably the hottest summer I ever remember in Hawaii out of all the summers I have ever lived here.) However, the humidity the past week or so has really done a number on me. I have been warned by the heat to up my water intake by nearly double. It has just been ridiculously hot.

I had a moment last week where I was so thirsty that I had to grab a bottled water in the store and start gulping – I felt like I was about to pass out. I think I am suffering from heat exhaustion because for a couple days in a row I just felt absolutely horrible. I am hoping that this comes to an end very soon because I have been feeling so damn miserable lately. Thank goodness for cool summer nights, fans, ice water and sugar-free slurpees!

In other news, I discovered one morning that one of my credit cards was used to make a fraudulent purchase. It was “only” $1.33 – but the thing about it is – I did not authorize that purchase. I called my credit card company and issued a fraud report. They cancelled my card and will be sending me a new one. I share this to remind all of you to please check your credit card and bank account statements. Figure out a system that works and stick to it.

The gentleman in the fraud department says most times what happens is your card will get charged a couple small amounts so the illegal scoundrels can see if you’re monitoring your account and suddenly *BAM* – they will try to charge a large amount. Let’s just say I was pretty damn heated and a bit annoyed because they couldn’t even trace where the charge came from. I googled the name of the lodge and it is a Yoga Retreat in Scotland. Even though I would love to go to Scotland one day and love myself some Yoga… that certainly wasn’t me.

In more exciting news – I binge-watched Netflix Original Series Stranger Things and I need them to come out with at least 2-6 more seasons… ASAP. Since I was left wanting more Sci-Fi goodies to fill up my time before school starts in a couple weeks I remembered that I didn’t finish watching Sense8. I am on episode 9 which is where it is getting even better but that also means I am almost to the end of that season – what do I do next? Let me know what you have been binge-watching on Netflix so I can check it out.

What I enjoyed reading this week:

  • 12 Reasons Entrepreneurs With Type-A Personalities Are Unstoppable: It seems like I always run into people that consider themselves Type-A’s and I think it is because of my interests, work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. This was a great read.
  • College Note Taking Tips: Check out Abigail’s excellent tips on taking notes. Her notes are so pretty and organized and her tips are just what I needed to get prepared for this upcoming semester.
  • 5 Ways to Add Self-Care to Your Bullet Journal: I have a little confession – I am a journal addict. I am not usually able to fill them up and have probably 20+ of them that are halfway filled. However, bullet journals are super popular right now and I was thinking about trying one or two out – one for blogging and one for self-care/personal goals so this was such a great time to find this post.

Blog Life, Life

I have been working a lot behind-the-scenes when it comes to blogging so expect to see more posts in the upcoming weeks. Last week I was able to post this Naturel Commodity Vitamin C + Hyaluronic Acid Review and of course a Flashback Friday’s post. I realized that sometimes when I am typing my fingers go so fast that the keyboard gets warm… hot even. It is actually happening right now as I type this out lol.

My goal is to post 3-5 times a week so I am slowly working my way up there. Since school is starting in a few weeks I do have a couple of college posts that are in the works so keep your eyes open for those. I have a couple of product reviews that I am working on as well – wish me luck!

Thank you so much for stopping by and reading – let me know how you got here. Did someone tell you to come check out the blog? Let me know in the comments as I would love to thank them (and you) xo
